Dear Eurofaeries,
It's been a wild week since the last trip to the land; we have a lot to
update you on! Here are the major areas of work; please feel free to ask
about the details.
LEGAL STRUCTURE AND PURCHASE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week we worked on determining the final legal structure for the
purchase and operation of the land as well as the financing. We spoke with
non-profit experts as well as the French notaire and other advisors and
will
this week finalize these plans. We dropped the Parisian attorney who
wanted
aver €10,000 for the entire research and work proposal.
We believe that a non-profit <<association loi 1901>> will be
the single
best structure for buying and owning the land. We have drafted bylaws
<<statuts>> and will have those reviewed this week before
sending them to
the prefecture of the Haute-Saône in which Folleterre is located. This
<<declaration>> makes the association a legal entity and will
allow us to
buy in the name of the Friends of Folleterre <<Les Amis de
Folleterre>>.
In our contacts with the banker we have confirmed an offer of a loan for
€90,000 over ten years provided we bring €60,000 to the sale. We are
working
out details now to see how we can provide for either a lower sum if we
bring
more cash or the same amount or a bit more or less if we bring additional
cash AND have the option to purchase nearby parcels. We are very
interested
in buying as much of the surrounding land as possible, provided we can
assure a sound financial base from the start.
Beebalm and Cee will visit the area this weekend and meet with the notaire
and the banker as well as visit the land with Herr Vogel (the seller) to
see
the exact limits of the land and discuss other parcels which may be for
sale.
COMMUNITY AND EVENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have made minimal progress on forming a Circle to make decisions
regarding the land but will now have more resources to do so as it appears
the legal questions are largely settled.
We have discussed several possible dates for a summer work gathering on
the
land (NOT to conflict with Terschelling XI) as well as a fall gathering to
officially open and bless the sanctuary.
FUNDRAISING
~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have an early draft of a fundraising plan that will roll out in two
phases, one prior to the purchase and one after. We are currently seeking
donations of €500 or more that will be available no later than May 15th,
2005. If you want to make such a donation, please contact Beebalm as soon
as
possible.
We have registered the web site www.folleterre.org and will be producing
print and web materials for the sanctuary
fundraising.
