GUIDELINES FOR STAYING at
Folleterre!
Being part of a larger nature preserve we ask you to take the time to read the following guidelines to help us take good care of the land. In order to maintain a harmonious relationship with our neighbours we ask you to respect the borders of the land. If you don't know where the boundaries are, ask. It is your responsibility to stay on Folleterre! Of course you may go off the land for walks etc.!
If you want to stay on Folleterre other than during gatherings and gatherettes
please contact us by
email. We ask for a donation of 5 € per day, whether you are staying in the house or in your tent. Nobody will be turned away for lack of
funds.
For as far possible please follow existing trails or maybe you would like to help create more
paths and steps? In general, your help is most appreciated! To get informed about priorities and communal decisions you can simply approach land use or house stewards.
Sometimes there is also a work list in the house.
We ask that all faeries please do not swim in the lakes around
Folleterre until further notice. (We want to ask for the owners permission first.)
PARKING
Parking is limited. Only at the entrance of the land at the left side of the road—please pull completely off the road so others can pass. At gatherings, please do not drive down to the house except to unload your bags quickly!
GETTING TO FOLLETERRE
Contact
the Gathering Line for detailed instructions on how to get to
Folleterre. If you need a ride from Lure (or Basel or somewhere else)
PLEASE plan ahead! This generally means letting the faerie who is
coordinating a gathering know when and where you will arrive. You may
want to call Folleterre for a ride when you get to the station; please
know that if you have not planned ahead there may be no one available,
but we will do our best.
WASHING AND TOILET
There are limited washing and toilet facilities. Designated spaces only! For showering and or washing we use only biodegradable soap. Even this biodegradable soap should be used only 30 m away from any water source and as
little as possible.
To avoid nasty urine smell and herbal damage there is a marked spot for urinating--look for the YELLOW ribbons and the trees marked with red and yellow. Also, the compost toilet is the ONLY dump place for your daily duty. NEVER shit anywhere else, on our land or off it. NEVER piss in the shitter—piss is what makes shit smell bad. Please cover, when you are done, with a portion of sawdust or ash, which you will find there.
We will be building a new "ground floor" shitter soon.
PHONE
The phone number is: 33-(0)3 84638940. We do not answer this phone all the time
as we may be in circle or might not hear it. We do have voice mail so
leave a message. Please do not plan to get any calls other than in an emergency; if you need to make a call you will need to pay for a phone card which we will provide. Please use your mobile phones as far away from the house as
possible; it's so nice to enjoy a mobile free zone and listen to the sounds of the creek.
WATER
Drinking water comes from two sources: a potable (drinkable) source in Ternuay and our own source on the land which is not 100 % drinkable (though some have done so). Bottles and containers for these two types of water are marked:
Q (for QUELLE, German for source or spring) for the non-potable source water, and
P (for POTABLE) for the drinkable city water
Please don't bring your own water unless you plan to keep it in your sleeping space as the bottles clutter the land. DO bring a water bottle that you can refill. If there is no more potable water in the tanks please find a faerie with a car and smile and say, "Wanna go for a ride?"
ELECTRICITY
There is electricity for lighting the house, working the fridge, and
that's it. Please plan to recharge your laptop/cell phone somewhere
else.
FIRE
Use fire, candles and kerosene lights with extreme care! NO fires outside the community fire
circles. NEVER, anywhere.
Please be sure that candles are covered or placed on hard plates. Heat and hot water come from wood stoves and gas stoves, ask if you need help working them. Only candles inside when they are in a fire proof lamp container, covering the flame. If you can find solar-powered garden lights bring them and we will offer you many favors.
WOOD
There are two types of wood: aged wood which is for high-priority purposes like heating in winter and cooking on the stove and new (fresh) wood which is for lower priority things like bonfires. Please pay attention to your use of wood.
HEALTH HAZARDS
Please do not use tobacco in the common living spaces or barn. No open flame inside! Also do not leave lamps or candles unattended.
The area around Folleterre has ticks during the warm season; please ask
if you do not know what they are and remove them as soon as you find
them. If you have health care in an EU member country, you will
certainly want to get your
European
Health Card, which
will greatly facilitate your access to health care should you need it in
France. Click the link above for more information (also in German and
French).
KITCHEN PROTOCOL
Keep the big pots on the stove filled with water. This provides lots of hot water for dish
washing and showers. Compost buckets and recycle waste containers are separated. For changing gas bottles a purchase receipt is necessary.
DOING YOUR SHARE
Please help take responsibility for doing things you see that are not getting done. If you want to help in the house or want to work on the land ask a steward first or check the work plan for the time you are there. Great ideas to help out are filling water tanks, making sure there is hot water on the stove,
washing dishes, sweeping inside the house, or helping Mom chop veggies.
ENJOY YOUR STAY IN A PLACE WE TRY TO KEEP
AS CLOSE TO NATURE AS POSSIBLE!
